A man is in a critical condition in hospital after an explosion and fire at a flat in Staffordshire.
Emergency services were called to a block of flats on Chase Road in Burntwood at 9.10pm last night (Monday 28th October).
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service sent five engines to the incident.
They found the man seriously injured and he was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Five other flats were evacuated and officers say no-one else was injured.
An investigation is underway to find the cause of the explosion.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said the patient was found with “serious injuries”.The service sent an ambulance, two paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor, a critical care paramedic, a BASICS emergency doctor, the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team and the Air Ambulance Critical Care Car from Cosford.
A spokeswoman said: “On arrival, crews found one patient, a man, with serious injuries.
“The man, who was in a critical condition, was treated by medics before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for further treatment.”
They are asking anyone with information to contact them on 101 quoting incident number 666 of 28 October.
